Sustainable ‘technostarters’ often find it hard to turn the technologies they’ve developed into a profitable business. Part of the problem is funding, as a result of which many good ideas never make it past the drawing board, and the chance to contribute to sustainable development is lost. Now, however, these entrepreneurs can turn to Start Green Venture Capital for support.
Start Green’s first offering is the Sustainable Innovation Fund (SIF) – a joint venture between Fortis, DOEN Participaties and Triodos Innovation Fund, initiated by Fortis Venturing. Start Green SIF sets out to make a significant contribution to economic and ecological development by investing in early-phase sustainable technology initiatives that would not qualify for regular financing.
The large number of green projects submitted to Start Green SIF quickly revealed a need for more support of this kind. Hence Start Green’s decision in 2007 to launch a second fund: Start Green Consumer Products Fund (CPF). The objective in this case is to help bring sustainable consumer products and applications to market.
